If you’re travelling to or living in the UAE, it’s important to know that poppy seeds are banned under local regulations.
While the tiny seeds found in foods are harmless, the UAE enforces strict drug control laws and classifies poppy seeds (from the opium poppy, Papaver somniferum) as a controlled substance.
Possession can lead to serious penalties, including fines or imprisonment.
If you’re travelling with granola, healthy snacks, or baked goods, always check UAE import laws before packing.
